REJUVENATING YOUR HANDS

If age spots, wrinkly skin, or other signs of ageing bother you, don’t throw up your hands and give in without a fight.  There are a number of treatments available for more youthful-looking hands.

NATURE TAKING ITS COURSE

The hands can often show more accelerated signs of ageing than the face. Natural ageing is responsible for the slower production of collagen and elastin. Your hands lose fat as you age and may develop age spots, thin dry skin, and a veiny appearance.

REVERSING THE TREND

As well as using a good moisturiser and SPF cream, there are a number of treatments available to help rejuvenate your hands.

Chemical peeling.

Although chemical peels are used mostly on the face, they can also be used to improve the skin on your hands.  Light chemical peels improve the texture and tone of your skin by removing the damaged outer layers. These peels include combinations of alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids, such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, and maleic acid.  You can repeat these treatments at regular intervals to achieve your desired results.

Collagen Stimulators and Dermal Fillers

Thin or bony hands can be plumped up with injections of collagen stimulators or dermal fillers.

Collagen-stimulating fillers don’t just add volume, they help create new collagen. These products contain ingredients that stimulate the body’s natural collagen production process and are injected below the surface of the skin to treat volume loss and provide an increase in skin thickness and skin tightening. The results appear gradually, over a few months new collagen is laid down helping to restore fullness to treated areas.

The average regimen consists of three injections spread out over three or four months. Results last up to two years.

For a more immediate result, dermal filler injected into the backs of your hands will restore lost volume.

Laser Therapy.

YAG Laser reduces the appearance of age spots, freckles, or uneven skin texture. Lasering the area also encourages collagen growth after the procedure. Laser treatment is suitable for fair to olive complexions; dark to very dark skin tones are not suitable for laser treatment.

While results with laser can be seen in as little as one week, they will slowly improve overtime.  Treatments can be repeated every few months to maintain a healthy and youthful appearance.
